The Foundation is a self-sustaining institution with great impact in the line of private conservation initiatives through 5 different models of private reserves with community projects in rural and urban areas.

The lines of action are mainly the conservation of biological and cultural diversity through different models of private conservation, environmental education and promotion of research and productive projects that help improve the quality of life of people living in these areas.

The Foundation has an integrated system of institutional development procedures that ensure the quality of their services. We have a national and international prestigious image, confidence and credibility for having helped position Ecuador in the field of conservation of natural and cultural resources, and for having influenced the creation of other NGOs based on its institutional mission.

Our Mission

Promote the conservation of Ecuador’s biodiversity, through technical training, scientific research, environmental education programs at national and international level, community development, sustainable management of natural resources and the training of leaders with greater ethnic and gender participation to improve the quality of life of the communities.

Volunteering

The Jatun Sacha Foundation offers volunteer opportunities in their reserves and biological stations, in order to give volunteers field experience in various areas such as reforestation, environmental education, service and community development, wildlife conservation, agroforestry, organic agriculture, sustainable aquaculture and scientific research.

Our Programs

Volunteers can choose from a wide range of activities in different areas. Additionally there are fixed activities which are supervised by residents, researchers, environmental education instructors and administrative staff at each field station.

Every year more than 1000 national and international volunteers support the conservation activities carried out at the different stations. Most of these volunteers come from countries like USA, Germany, Canada, France, Denmark, Holland, Australia, England, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Japan, China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland, Ireland, Portugal, Costa Rica and others. This program not only gives you the opportunity to travel to a new country, explore wonderful places and live with people from other cultures, but also gives you the opportunity to develop new skills, gain field experience during organized activities, which help to preserve the forests and improve the quality of life of the local communities.

Join the efforts of the Jatun Sacha Foundation in order to protect the forest, aquatic and páramo ecosystems in Ecuador.

Where can you volunteer?

Volunteers can assist in various reserves located in the main regions of Ecuador: Coast, Highland, Amazon and the Galapagos Islands. The reserves contain preserved forest habitat types like tropical forest, montane forest of high and low moor, cloud forest, rainforest, mangroves and dry forest. In the reserves there are a number of activities that need the help of volunteers: maintain the infrastructure of the stations, trails, patrolling of the reserves, data collection, research assistance (not on all bookings) as well as eradication of introduced species (Galapagos). Voluntary work is highly appreciated by the Foundation. We thank all the volunteers who have come to our reserves. They are a very important part within our efforts to conserve the ecosystems in Ecuador.
