I applied to go on a Think Pacific project as soon as I turned 18 and it genuinely was one of the best experiences of my life! I actually found out about TP through an add on instagram and was immediately attracted to the charity and the project!
I think one of the things that made me want to apply was how focused it is, in the way that TP have a very clear set of aims and structure and therefore are actually making a considerable difference across Fiji! Also, I found particularly during the application and prior to arriving in Fiji, that it is a very close knit, personal charity, whereby you meet or talk to (over the phone or on facebook), most of the people who work for TP, including the founders, and you can gain reassurance from the fact that they themselves have been on project with TP and know what you are about to experience!
The project itself was just beyond what I ever imagined. Fiji is an absolutely beautiful country and TP help you to experience its best, from the briefing resort to the R&R time after being in the village, and all the amazing village visits and excursions between! But for me, what makes Fiji one of the most memorable places I have ever visited is the people. Living with a host family and immersing yourself into their culture is just incredible, and despite the differences from home, its crazy how quickly you can slot into their way of life! My Fijian family 100% made my experience. I will always remember the things they taught us and the way they took us into their homes, gave us their beds and shared everything they had- you will never meet more loving, generous and welcoming people! I'm lucky enough to still be able to talk to and video call my family quite often and I'm hoping to return to the village to see them again soon- I just miss them SO much, especially the kiddies!!!
Its not just the Fijian people that made my experience amazing, but also the group and the leaders you have alongside you, supporting and caring for you, through the harder times and the good, sharing the crazy adventure with you! I have made friends for life within my group, whom I still see and talk to regularly!
For anyone considering a volunteer project, DO IT!!! You will never regret volunteering with TP, it is an incredible charity working in the most amazing country with the most beautiful loving people in the world! (You just have to survive the flight first- but it's worth it I promise!!)

My volunteer trip with ThinkPacific in 2017 was more of a spontaneous decision than anything else. I remember my mother being so anger with me for making such careless decision but I did and do not regret it one bit. I remember pinning ThinkPacific’s website in my bookmarks a year after it had formed and I kept telling myself that I would volunteer. I never could find the time though, until I started university.
My first year at university taught me so much. I learnt to live in the moment and take risks and I guess that’s what I did with ThinkPacific. Visiting Naduri was a phenomenal experience and I would not change it for anything. It reminded me so much of my roots in Africa, so in a way, it’s as if I had come home. I was enthralled by its beauty and it’s people who pride themselves in living in the moment despite not having much; and I am truly grateful that there is a charity like ThinkPacific to help people like us, who at times are ignorant of life’s true meaning and still desire more.
My month long trip helped me immerse myself in the Fijian way of life. My Fijian family, whom I will treasure for the rest of my life and am going to back to visit once I graduate welcomed me with open arms. They taught me their language, their traditions and share their history with me.
More than anything, I was so lucky to have gone with the strangers that I did, who later became lifelong friends. The world needs companies like ThinkPacific. Companies that are not driven by capitalism but by genuine people who have a genuine love for helping the world. Companies that do not care about profit but rather, put the money of their volunteers into bettering Fijian communities. Hence why, I highly recommend to anyone in search of themselves, someone who is tired of the western life. I greatly recommend that you take some time out and experience Fiji because it is a beautiful country with beautiful people. I learnt so much about life from my lewa and tou. I never thought of them as underprivileged because they didn’t think of themselves as that. For them, they had lived a full life, a life that rarely lived by those in the western world and I will forever be thankful to ThinkPacific for showing me this side of life.
I took part in a one month Think Pacific Youth & Sports volunteering project in the Fijian Islands and it was by far the best thing I have ever done. Think Pacific is a charity that prides itself with maintaining the utmost respectful and rewarding presence within the rural communities of Fiji. They work with the Fijian Government to make sure that all their volunteering is sustainable and is making a positive impact within the communities.
My project took place on the island of Moturiki where my team lived and volunteered for a month. You get an extremely immersive cultural experience with Think Pacific as you live with a Fijian family in their home within your village and take part in their daily life. It is a basic but extremely eye-opening experience and although there may be challenges you come away with a second family and a home all the way across the world.
On the Youth and Sports project, you undertake volunteering in the local schools where you support the struggling children in Maths and English while also providing and promoting positive and fun physical education. Even in a few weeks, you can make a lasting impact.
It really is like a whole other world in Fiji and you get so caught up in the wonder of it all it really does fly by. You won't want to leave.
I highly recommend a Think Pacific project to anyone who wants to volunteer abroad, become immersed in another culture and make a lasting impact on a less privileged community. It really will change your life.
I went to Fiji with Think Pacific to volunteer in an underprivileged primary school to teach students 1 on 1.
The application process was great and easy but TP made sure you were going for the right reasons. TP stayed with you the whole way and were great throughout the whole process from leaving the UK, throughout the project until we got back to the UK.
When I got to Fiji, we met our team and I have made life long friends with other volunteers.
We stayed with a Fijian family in partners to ease the pressure on yourself which was great. My Fijian family were the nicest people I will ever meet.
The month I spent in Fiji was one of the most emotional but rewarding month of my life and I would go back in a heartbeat.
I would recommend this trip to any person under 25.
