The school is in the centre of Lagos, a small seaside town with stunning beaches and a beautiful marina. It is a 1-hour drive from Faro airport.

The school offers an efficient and professional service and has highly-qualified and experienced teachers. It is recognised by the Portuguese Ministry of Education.

The languages taught are English, Portuguese, German and French.  Students can choose to study in groups or have private lessons. Private lessons are a better option for students with limited time or specific needs.

Courses

English, German and French
The English, German and French courses all have the same structure and objectives. Students who take these courses are usually Portuguese from all age groups and have a wide variety of aspirations and qualifications. Our main objective is to have courses which respond to the immediate linguistic needs - educational, professional and social - of the students.

  • Group Courses: 3 lessons per week. These courses are structured according to the 6 levels of language proficiency in the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They are held from October to June and are divided into 3 terms. The students are assessed at the end of each term. There is an examination at the end of each course and students who pass will be given a diploma.
  • Private Lessons: The length and structure of the courses depend on the students’ requirements. Students who are not beginners are always interviewed and their level evaluated before their course starts.
  • Examination Courses: Students who study in regular group courses can choose to study towards sitting external examinations: those of Cambridge University (for students of English), the Goethe Institut (for students of German) and the Alliance Française (for students of French). These students will obviously have a heavier work load. Until now, our average pass rate for these examinations has been 90%.
  • Summer Courses: We organise these courses for all levels - for children, teenagers and adults. The courses for children and teenagers are lively and exciting, with games and activities. Length of course: 2 months (July and August): 4 lessons per week.

Tutorial Lessons for School Pupils (all languages)

The number of tutorial lessons per week depends on the students' requirements. Before the lessons start, the students discuss the difficulties they have with school work with the teacher.

Portuguese for Foreigners

Although these courses have the same 6 levels as the English, German and French courses, they are structured differently. This is because of the type of students who study Portuguese and also because of what they expect from the course, which is usually quite different from the local Portuguese students.

The foreign students who study Portuguese can be divided into 2 distinct groups: those who live in Portugal and who want to learn Portuguese to integrate fully into the community, or business people who normally need specialised courses relating to their professions. Except in the case of beginners, all students are interviewed to assess their levels.

Students can choose to have private lessons or study in a group (4-8 students).  Our most popular group course is the 30-lesson one for beginners.  It is really enjoyable and the aim is to have students speaking Portuguese as quickly as possible.
