Popular destinations include Chiang Mai, Ching Rai and Bangkok but there are also so many other areas of the country you should consider too.

A sprawling metroposis with buildings, noise, people, temples, huge modern shopping centres and also hundreds of cafe, bars and food outlets. Stay around the Koh San Road area - this is a backpacker haven.
2. Koh Phangan
The full moon party in Koh Phangan happens once a month and its important you arrive a few days earlier as accommodation get booked up quick.
3. Chiang Mai
A relatively quiet city compared to Bangkok and its also a great place to visit. In Chiang Mai check out the Elephant Nature Park where rescued elephants roam free in a wild environment.
4. Phi Phi
The island of Koh Phi Phi is still one of the most popular gap year destinations in Thailand but expect to pay a lot for accommodation as since the film the Beach it's become really touristy.
