Volunteer in Mali

Types of Programs Available

There have been well highlighted problems in the country in recent years and most volunteer organisations have suspended volunteer programs for international participants until further notice. Thousands of people have given service in Mali over the past decades through organisations like Peace Corps and the UN helping educational, environment, agriculture, health and business programs.

Most programs have an emphasis on helping people which have suffered a lot due to the unrest in recent decades. You could be working in communities helping build new structures, working to improve healthcare and sanitation, teaching and improving education with children or coaching sports. There are several locations where you can join volunteer programs including rural areas where help is most needed. Local people speak French and it is recommended you learn basic phrases to enhance your stay but you will not need to know the language to apply.
