We offer projects in Healthcare, Education and Buddhism. Experience the cultural immersion as you work side-by-side with your Thai host and counterpart. Our projects are located in Kanchanaburi. Kanchanaburi is Thailand’s third largest province.  It covers an area of 19,486 square kilometers, most of which is forested mountains.  The town is located at the meeting point of the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai Rivers surrounded by fertile farm land.

Work abroad as a volunteer and broaden your personal horizons as a TSC team member, while crossing paths with people of another culture. Our service and learning projects provide opportunities to shadow Thai doctors or teach English to students or orphans. Explore the world of Buddhism by teaching English to novice monks while learning about Buddhism and meditation.

Volunteer Service Projects

Health Care

We seek health professionals, and students of medicine (to include dental and pharmacology) who desire to make a difference through service while broadening their horizons.

Medical professionals - of all specialties are encouraged to participate. If you don't have 2 years for the Peace Corps or 6 months for Doctors without Borders then come join us in a tailored 3-6 week mission of service.

Medical students - take a break from classroom studies and get credit for your rotation by serving in an international health environment. Thai doctors that you work with will provide evaluations of student clinical performance as required.

Pre med students - shadow a Thai doctor or Thai medical staff. Observe and experience all facets of Thai International health care. Observe Doctor Vichen as he delivers a baby or conducts an Ultrasound to check the status of the baby. Watch Doctor Pichai as he repairs a broken leg, caused by a motorcycle accident. Sit with Doctor Lek, as she conducts "sick call" and observe and be mentored in how to conduct medical histories. Travel to a local clinic or home as hospital doctors make their rounds of service treating and serving patients.

(TSC, All team members help Doctors, nurses and staff with their English conversation, vocabulary, listening and, speaking skills).

Buddhist Cultural Traditions

Our Buddhist Cultural Traditions project seeks to enlighten you about Buddhism and its effect on the Thai people. It will provide a path to understanding the Buddhist philosophy, ethics and practice. By placing you with a Thai host you have the opportunity to see, first hand, the impact of the Buddhist religion on the family. Secondly, by teaching at a local school you observe the role of Buddhism in the schools. Lastly, by spending time at a local Wat you have the opportunity to teach English to novice monks. During your time at the Wat ample opportunity will be available for you to have discussions with the Abbot and monks about Buddhism. Additionally, you can discuss meditation with the monks and be mentored in the process of learning how to meditate. Abbots Supachai and Bart, just a few of the monks, are fluent in English and are pleased to teach you or to engage you in a dialogue about religion or just about any subject.

Education

If you can reach or change the thinking of just one student-then you have excelled. TSC team members may teach at primary schools, secondary schools, orphanages, schools for the hearing impaired, vocational schools, and colleges.

Help us help empower students and teachers with knowledge through classroom education or lecture. We provide you with lesson plans for the presentation. Our participants teach English, in a Thai classroom, along side a Thai teacher at a local school, orphanage or college. TSC team members lead classes in conversational English.

We emphasize vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension, grammar, speaking, reading, and listening. We augment this by adding the fun of games and songs to our teaching. Usually, you will teach in the classroom with your host or counter part. They will help you prepare for the task of teaching and assist in translation, if necessary.

In addition to the English teaching we ask you to teach other subjects of which you may be knowledgeable. Team TSC members may teach other subjects such as computers, geography, environment,  math, or sports.

(TSC Education team members spend the week days at the assigned school project).

International Internships

During internships team members participate in a nine week program, or longer. Internships are offered each month beginning with any published program start date.

TSC Internships are designed for students who are interested in receiving a deeper and more broadening learning experience in Healthcare, Buddhism, HIV/AIDs and Education. Participation in an Internship will strengthen your cross-cultural communications skills, while you will learn directly (one-on-one)  in a professional setting. TSC will work with you to ensure that your individual goals are met and that through your contribution the needs of the community will be helped.

If you desire to receive academic credit for your internship, we recommend you discuss with your academic advisor your plans to do an internship. Once you have discussed the issue and scope of your project and receive approval provide that information to TSC. We will then work with you to assign a Thai faculty sponsor in the appropriate field who will provide on site guidance, mentoring and reporting/evaluation as required.

You can then provide this information to your academic advisor for final approval. Once everything is set with your academic advisor you will need to provide TSC with information concerning the type of report required or any specific evaluation forms.
