Help contribute to empowering local children and communities overcome their situations and poverty.

Join a local Ugandan charity making a huge difference to the lives of so many children and individuals in the slums of Uganda. They are passionate about empowering the children and communities, letting them know they are loved and are worth something, and helping them to overcome their situations and poverty.Kids Club Kampala (KCK) is a not-for-profit organisation working in the slums of Kampala, Uganda, with the aim of bringing hope and love to vulnerable children and transforming poor communities. Founded in 2009, Kids Club Kampala was set up to overcome the lack of hope and self-esteem of children living in situations of extreme poverty, and works to empower children and women from disadvantaged communities to bring about sustainable changes through different development projects and supporting their basic needs.

Kids Club Kampala currently has 17 project centres, and works with some of the most vulnerable and poor communities in the urban slums and surrounding areas of Kampala, Uganda. We are currently reaching over 4000 children and their families every week, with a fantastic team of over 70 local volunteers who give up their time and energy to care for the children in their communities.

During this rewarding journey you will visit different projects and volunteer in different areas - depending on your skills, interests, experience and wishes.

One project we are particularly looking for volunteers to help with is the Encouraging Education project. This project allows children who would otherwise have no access to education to have the opportunity to learn through taking part in informal education classes. These classes run from Monday to Friday every afternoon throughout the year and focus on academic skills as well as behaviour, health awareness and social-skills. This programme not only helps children with their education and gives them vital life skills, but it also provides them with a safe place to escape from the dangers of the slum. Approximately 250 children currently attend this programme, and after class each child gets a hot, nutritional meal, which means they won’t go hungry either. Volunteers will assist with teaching, planning lessons, marking work, entertaining the children and helping to feed them.

Please note we take volunteers year round, so let us know when you want to go to Kampala and volunteer!

  • Teach children, who have no access to education, informal lessons and give them a brighter future
  • Join in a feeding programme to make sure each child gets a daily nutritional meal
  • Spend time with beautiful children who will make you laugh and smile
  • Experience first hand what the slums are really like in Uganda

Day 1: Arrive Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport you will be greeted by one of the Inspired Escapes team and transferred to the Kids Club Kampala's office. You will have the day to settle in and meet the team.

Day 2-7: Donate your Time to the Children

Over the next week you will be working with Kids Club Kampala’s out-of-school children to help teach them basic English, reading, writing, and to assist with their feeding programmes. No prior teaching experience is necessary. These education classes not only help children with their education and give them vital life skills, but they also provide the children with a safe place to go every evening. Living in the slums can be dangerous, and these classes provide the children with a safe environment and sense of community, where they can keep out of trouble, out of danger and build up a trusting relationship with each other and the volunteers. After class each child gets a hot, nutritious meal, which means they won’t go hungry either. Please note, we can tailor your volunteer experience to your skills and what areas you would prefer to work in - just let us know!
