We began our mission with one camp, 28 campers and 18 staff in London. Since then, we have grown across Ontario, and run over 50 programs each year.

We have been putting fun into the lives of families impacted by childhood cancer since 1984.

Staff

Camp Trillium provides different camp programs all summer long; to do so, we employ staff full-time in the summer. For these staff, Camp Trillium is more than just a summer job; it provides you with unforgettable experiences that are much more than just a resume booster. This experience allows you to positively impact the lives of children and families who have experienced childhood cancer.

What you are left with after a summer working at camp is more than you could ever wish for, you are left with: a box of warm fuzzies, a lifetime worth of laughter, the most epic swim suit tan lines that will last you months, superior dress up skills, moments that melted your heart, and lifelong friendships. Be one of the people that make Camp Trillium the magical place that it is by applying below.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age on June 1st
  • Experience working with children, in camping, or in an outdoor setting
  • Hardworking and dedicated, with a desire to learn and contribute to the team
  • Fluency in English and French is an asset
  • NLS certification (each site needs to hire 20 lifeguard certified counselors, so obtaining your NLS qualification is vastly beneficial and will open up more employment opportunities.)
  • Able to commit to an entire summer being onsite during sessions

Provided:

  • Paid in house training
  • Room and board accommodations
  • Starting positions $400/week
  • NLS starting position $450/week

Volunteering

Volunteers are a huge reason why so many children and families get to enjoy camp each summer and have the ongoing support of year round recreational programs.

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to build wonderful relationships with amazing children and families, as well as make connections with other like-minded people who want to make a difference in the world. Volunteering is an excellent opportunity to learn from others and offer your talents, while having a fantastic time!

Volunteers act as “Special Friends” at camp and are assigned to a family (at Family Camp) or to a couple of children (at Kids Camp). It is your job to have fun and connect with your Special Friends while helping to integrate them into camp life. You also act as a camp counselor, engaging with the children in all the camp activities.

Requirements:

  • Volunteers need to be 18 years old and have a passion for having fun with children. Previous experience with children is an asset.
  • Fill out the volunteer application. You will be contacted to arrange an interview/information meeting.
  • New volunteers will be required to provide 3 references, have a police clearance and complete a Camp Trillium health record, which includes taking a tuberculosis test, and ensuring you are up-to-date on all immunizations.

Volunteer Opportunities

All our programs are free for the children and families and more volunteers means we can get more children and families out to camp! Volunteers are matched with children or families to be their “special friend” responsible for helping them have an amazing time at camp. Our staff team takes care of the programming and technical stuff so volunteers do not need camp experience, they just need to love having fun and connecting with people!

We are currently looking for volunteers for school year sleepover weekend camps. The minimum commitment is one weekend but you are welcome to come to more. Volunteers arrive for 5pm on Friday and stay on site until 2pm on Sunday. We offer kids camps (ages 8-15), teen camps (ages 13-16) and family camps which includes kids of all ages and their parents. The upcoming dates and locations are:

Nursing Jobs

A huge part of what nurses do at camp, is to help foster a camp environment that strives to make the effects of cancer “normal” so that all campers are recognized as kids first and are encouraged and supported to do the things that kids do.

The “Body Shop” is the health care facility at camp. This is where nurses are available twenty-four hours a day and provide health care to campers, staff and volunteers. Day Camp nurses carry a portable “Body Shop”, a toolkit of assessment and treatment supplies. All campers, including parent campers, staff and volunteers are required to have a completed health record on site.

At our residential sites a team of 3-5 registered nurses work at each session. A charge nurse facilitates the operation of the Body Shop. As well there may be a health care assistant on each team, who is typically a nursing student entering his/her final year. There is generally a core summer nursing team that is added to, as sessions require.

Camp Trillium does not routinely staff doctors on site. A physician in the surrounding community as well as a pediatric oncologist from the closest regional cancer centre is available to nurses for consultation. For Day Camp, the nurse and camp director will have the nearest hospital to the park mapped out in case of any medical emergency.
