Best Campsites in Queenstown
If you are planning on going camping or renting/taking your campervan there are lots of fantastic places to stay in spectacular Queenstown in the South Island of New Zealand. Check out our top recommendations below...
Options
One interesting option for camping in Queenstown is what is called “freedom camping.” This means that if your campervan or motorhome is “fully self-contained (with a toilet, wastewater tank and rubbish facilities on board),” then you can camp overnight on any public land that is not in a residential area or town centre, for free – unless posted signage indicates otherwise. You must also agree not to litter, not start a campfire, and dispose of wastewater at a dump station.
If you are backpacking with a tent, or have a campervan or are renting one and it is not fully self-contained, or you don't own one and would prefer a camping ground with more facilities, there are plenty of choices when it comes to choosing a good campsite.
1. Frankton Motor Camp
This camp is very close to town, and actually has its own lakeside trail allowing you to walk into town in relative peace and quiet. It has on site cabins and flats for further accommodation.
2. Arrowtown Born of Gold Holiday Park
A recently remodelled park, this site is just a short drive out of town, and features both powered and unpowered campsites, with spacious kitchen area, excellent shower and toilet facilities, internet, laundry, and other top-notch amenities.
3. Queenstown TOP 10 Creeksyde Holiday Park
One of the closest parks to the high street, this park is award-winning and boasts not only great rates but great views. Campervan sites are both powered and non-powered, with access to clean communal toilets and showers, kitchen/laundry, and free BBQ kitchens.
