The Belize Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was described by Charles Darwin as 'the most remarkable reef in the West Indies'.
The reefs not only offer important supplies, such as building materials and food, to thousands of people, it is also a source of employment and income through the fishery and tourism industries. Although there are various protective measures in place, the reef has been affected by mass-bleaching events.
As part of your initial training, volunteers will also be trained as a PADI Open Water Diver. As a certified scuba diver you will then be able to fully participate in the underwater surveys and conservation dives. If you are already a certified diver, we can provide you with your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver training.
Volunteers work alongside a well-established local NGO, collecting data on important fish species, as well as conch and lionfish. Aside from diving, volunteers will also take part in community-based activities, including beach cleans and community outreach.
We also have Diving & Marine Conservation projects in Cambodia and Thailand!
