Duration: 2 weeks to 6 months
Approx Costs: 250 to 2000 $ Dollars (US)
The Turtle Conservation project is located on the smaller island of Nusa Penida, which is a 45 minute speed boat ride from mainland Bali. The project is in its early stages and volunteers will contribute to its development.
Here volunteers work alongside a local team to help to protect the endangered sea turtles of Indonesia. Volunteers work with the turtles for three hours each morning and may be involved in feeding and cleaning turtles, caring for turtles who are victims of commercial fishing or various illnesses, cleaning the beach and turtle tanks, hatching eggs and educating visitors about the turtles. In the afternoon, volunteers spend two hours teaching English to local children at primary schools on the island.
The focus of these lessons is to develop English language skills in the children and therefore volunteers are required to prepare lesson plans as well as review the progress of the children. Few native English speakers have taught English here before, so your experience is guaranteed to be an authentic one! Volunteers must be prepared for a more basic standard of both meals and accommodation on the island. Nusa Penida is not a tourist island and volunteers can expect fewer shops and attractions available - bearing in mind the beach is practically at your doorstep!
Please note, volunteers on the Turtle Conservation project must participate on the project for a minimum of two weeks.
The first and third Monday of every month
Volunteers must be 18 years or older on the volunteer program start date
