Gorski kotar is a mountainous region that separates Adriatic coast from continental Croatia. Gorski kotar scenery consists of high mountains, rocky fields, mountain streams, rivers and lakes. The climate is alpine - summers are fresh and winters are long and very snowy.Large area of Gorski kotar (63%) is covered by forest and it is also called “the green heart of Croatia”.

This region is famous for its natural beauty, flora and fauna – from the beautiful Kupa valley at 200 meters above sea level and the highest point Bjelolasica at 1,534 meters.The largest and most famous natural and touristic attraction is a national park Risnjak which spreads on over 6,000 acres.The center of the region is city of Delnice and some of the popular places to visit are Mrkopalj, Čabar, Fužine, Lič, Ravna Gora, Skrad, Vrbovsko and Brod Moravice.
