1. Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the most popular cities in Asia, a sprawling metroposis with buildings, noise, people, temples, huge modern shopping centres and also hundreds of cafe, bars and food outlets.

Stay around the Koh San Road area - this is a backpacker haven and a hive of activity. 

If you are looking to find your position, Bangkok is where most teaching jobs in Thailand can be found. There are language and private schools located throughout the city. 

 

2. Koh Phangan

3. Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is relatively quiet city compared to Bangkok but it is a great city to visit. In Chiang Mai you can visit some of the best elephant sanctuaries in Thailand and see rescued elephants roam free in a wild environment.

4. Phi Phi

The island of Koh Phi Phi is one of the most popular gap year destinations in Thailand which was made famous in the Leonaro Dicaprio film 'The Beach'. 

This is one of the most beautiful islands in Thailand and there are so many boat trips to see amazing destinations like Maya beach and Monkey Island.

Expect to pay a lot for accommodation as the island has really developed and got more popular over the past decade. 

 

5. Koh Chang

Located a few hours from Bangkok, Koh Chang is large island has beautiful beaches, a laid back atmosphere and is less crazy than some of the other islands in terms of nightlife. There are so many reasons to travel to Koh Chang, this island is amazing!

 

6. Phuket 

Koh Samui

Phuket is quite touristy with huge resorts but there are ways to escape the crowds and see stunning temples, beaches and nature spots.
