We're a leading animal welfare charity that's passionate about providing lifelong support to pets and the people that love them. Our commitment to creating a more equal, diverse, and inclusive organisation means that everyone at Blue Cross can thrive.

Volunteer

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do and we'd love you to join us.

Volunteer with pets
Our rehoming and veterinary services help 35,000 pets each year, and we couldn’t do this without the support of our dedicated volunteers.

Volunteer in our charity shops
Our charity shops raise vital funds for sick, injured and homeless pets, and our volunteers are integral to helping us do this.

Volunteer with our Pet Loss Support service
Help others going through pet loss by becoming a volunteer.

Volunteering for fundraising and events
Whether you have hours or days to spare, there are lots of ways to get involved with our fundraising initiatives.

Volunteering as part of DofE
You can sign up with us to complete the volunteering section of your bronze, silver or gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Volunteer as a pet foster carer
We're looking for committed people who can foster pets in their own home.

Bitesize ways to volunteer
Short on time but want to help? There are a few ways you can volunteer more flexibly, or from home.

Trainee placements and work experience

We're here for those looking to:

gain useful work experience
complete your Duke of Edinburgh's Award
get a placement for extra-mural studies (EMS)
secure a veterinary graduate placement
find a voluntary job centre placement
enquire about a community service order

Extra-mural studies (EMS) and veterinary nurse placements

We do offer EMS placement but, due to high demand, we can only offer placements to students in their fourth and fifth year of their course. We can also sometimes offer placements to those training to be a veterinary nurse.

We have three animal hospitals that can offer placements in the UK:

Grimsby
Hammersmith
Merton

Veterinary graduate placements

We offer a fantastic graduate development programme for talented and hardworking graduate vets.

It will provide you with many excellent opportunities to advance your skills in small animal medicine and surgery in a friendly and professional hospital environment.

So, if you're passionate about helping pets in need, then this might be perfect for you.
