In 2009, a bunker was discovered in Switzerland and this has since been transformed into a very unusual hotel. It is one of the most expensive hotels on our list but you get a really unique place to stay - literally outside. There are no walls or even a roof!
To protect against Napoleon Bonaparte III, the then British Prime Minister Lord Palmerstone facilitated the construction of this fort around 1867-1880 in Portsmouth on the south coast of England. Over time, this island has been renovated to form one of the most special hotels in the world. The materials used create an antique feel as the structure still uses the original iron ceilings and windows. But this is now a luxury hotel with 22 guest rooms available. Facilities include a glass penthouse, a hot tub, a nightclub, a spa and heliport.
Matera is a city on a rocky outcrop in the region of Basilicata, in southern Italy and is famous for the Sassi area, a UNESCO site with cave dwellings carved into the mountainside.

Jules' Undersea Lodge, Florida, USA
Jules' Undersea Lodge is the only underwater hotel in the United States. It is 30 feet deep on the ocean floor and guests have to scuba dive to get to their rooms. The hotel is located at the bottom of the Emerald Lagoon and was opened in 1986.
Located in the lagoon at Key Largo Undersea Park, Jules’ is the world’s only underwater hotel where scuba diving is the only way to get to your room. In addition to overnight stays in the Lodge, the Park offers a great SCUBA training location in its Lagoon, with a depth of up to 30′ in a protected setting. Individuals can get Open Water certified here, do a Discover SCUBA Diving course, or just dive around in the lagoon.

Located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park, EcoCamp is set in unique domes inspired by the ancient dwellings of the region.
Guests sleep in sustainable domes and eat meals in large community domes overlooking the majestic hills. These are fitted with private or shared bathrooms, wood stoves and private terraces.

Natura Vive Skylodge, Sacred Valley, Peru
