No Man’s Fort, Solent, Portsmouth, England
To protect against Napoleon Bonaparte III, the then British Prime Minister Lord Palmerstone facilitated the construction of this fort around 1867-1880 in Portsmouth on the south coast of England. Over time, this island has been renovated to form one of the most special hotels in the world. The materials used create an antique feel as the structure still uses the original iron ceilings and windows. But this is now a luxury hotel with 22 guest rooms available. Located in the lagoon at Key Largo Undersea Park, Jules’ is the world’s only underwater hotel where scuba diving is the only way to get to your room.
