Soweto Backpackers

Our Backpackers lodge is situated in Orlando West, a vibrant community rich in history and culture. Staying with us gives you the opportunity to experience Soweto, its people, the different neighborhoods and its history up close and personal.

Few places in the world can tell you so much about a country’s history like Soweto does. Few places in South Africa are a true reflection of modern day South African society, like Soweto is. This is why South Western Township is the world’s most famous township. And this is why a visit to this special corner of the world will enrich your travel experience and give you a personal and up close encounter with South Africa and its people.

Our community is safe to explore on your own and we are on a walking distance from many of Soweto’s famous sites such as the Hector Pieterson memorial and Vilakazi Street with Nelson Mandela’s former home.

We offer a unique and interactive tour experience of Soweto. All our guides are from around Soweto and will show you their neighborhoods and have first-hand information on Soweto’s history, life and culture. If you choose to stay at our Backpackers you will get a discount on our popular guided tours by bicycle, walk or tuk tuk.
