Each year the Savio House community is made up of people from different backgrounds, sharing their experiences and working together towards a shared mission. The presence of a team of young adults at Savio makes the whole community livelier and more earthed in its work and living.

Volunteers are welcomed into the home of the Salesians. In this setting the volunteers learn to take on responsibility, stretch their skills with young people and get to know themselves better. Often a greater clarity about vocation and career emerges in this time away from the normal patterns of life. It’s a great year, rich in experience, full of hard work. It bonds friendships and roots volunteers in a tradition that gives them resilience and greater confidence in themselves.

Volunteering at Savio House

Catholic Residential Retreat Centres across the country are offering a life-changing volunteering opportunity for young adults. Retreat team volunteers live in community with other young adults, sharing their faith with hundreds of young people on retreat and making lifelong friends along the way. As a volunteer, you’ll gain invaluable skills in leadership, organisation and teamwork. Whatever your career path, your newfound confidence and unique skillset are sure to set you apart from the rest. The experience will have a lasting impact on your own faith.

Volunteers join the community in early September and work through until July. They can come directly from 6th form experience or from graduation, but anyone 18+ will be considered. Volunteers will need to have enthusiasm to work with young people, good listening skills, as well as a broad christian background and a sympathetic approach to the catholic tradition. They will receive training in first aid, food handling, health and safety, safeguarding, and youth work skills, among many others. They will also work with a supervisor to monitor progress and reflect on their learning. It is an excellent interim step to work with young people in schools, in youth work or social work. It is also a fast track to maturity and spiritual growth.
