The Retreat is being built in conjunction with the local community of Kartong, who benefit from the development and running of the resort and who will assume complete responsibility in twenty-five years time. The Retreat offers accommodation in luxury lodges, nestled in the bush a hundred metres from the beach.

The first phase of the Eco-Retreat opened in Nov 2007, so why not be one of the first people to enjoy its unique atmosphere.

Sandele Bay Eco-Retreat is run on ethical principles, training and employing the local staff and using local materials wherever possible. It is built using ecological construction techniques introduced from India to The Gambia and is run as a model of sustainability.

As well as sustainable construction Sandele Bay is a model of responsible tourism in The Gambia. The Pathways Foundation, an associated charity, runs courses on behalf of The International Centre for Responsible Tourism – The Gambia. The Foundations organises many other courses to do with organisational and personal development and sustainability.

Our Vision: To create a centre of excellence in terms of responsible tourism, sustainability; luxury and peace; where quality, first-rate service and superior cuisine is offered in a manner that maximises benefit to the local community.
