Loop Abroad

We offer unforgettable veterinary service and study abroad programs in Thailand, South Africa, Australia, The Amazon and The Galapagos.

Loop Abroad is a student travel organization that began with a singular mission: provide the best hands-on study abroad for students pursuing careers working with animals. We’ve done this by partnering with world-renowned conservationists in their efforts to protect endangered animals. While our programs and geography have expanded, we remain committed to global animal welfare.

Our mission is to make a positive impact on animal welfare and marine and wildlife conservation around the world by partnering with responsible, local organizations to support them in their efforts while at the same time offering our students unprecedented opportunities for hands-on learning across all programs.

Unlike “voluntourism” programs, Loop Abroad programs follow a study abroad model. Our students travel to learn from others and to become better educated individuals who can give back in their professional careers and work across cultures. Moreover, we are proud to offer a wide-range of ethical and responsible travel programs to students who share our commitment to furthering the cause for animal welfare, biodiversity, and respect for all living things.

As we pursue our mission, we strive to follow the Standards of Good Practice set out by the Forum on Education Abroad, which is recognized as the US Standards Development Organization for the field.

Loop Abroad Reviews

I traveled to Thailand through Loop in summer 2018 as a Pre-Veterinary student, going into my senior year. This program tops anything I have done in the past, and I traveled to Africa through a different organization a few years ago. Loop Abroad gave me opportunities to learn in a way I could have never achieved at home or through any other program. I applied to veterinary school this same summer and Thailand gave me an upper hand in my experiences and so much more. Thailand, the friends I gained there, and the hands-on veterinary experience will be something I will think about every day and am so graceful for. I could go on and on. I recommend everyone to go, even if you are not a pre-veterinary student. The experience in Thailand alone was life-changing. DO IT !!

Loop Abroad in Thailand

I joined Loop Abroad in Thailand in 2015, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I was in my first year of undergrad, and I wanted to get more veterinary experience but wasn't able to find many opportunities in the States that would allow me to get much hands-on experience. The trip was a perfect combination of animal care and exploring the beautiful country of Thailand. After I got back, I got a job as a vet tech at a local animal hospital based on the experience I had gotten on the trip. Then, in 2017, I got accepted into vet school, and my interviewer told me that one of the things that made me stand out was my trip to Thailand. This experience was not only super exciting, but it also helped my career. I'm looking forward to participating in other Loop Abroad trips, but this time as a veterinary student!

Best Student Trip I’ve Ever Taken

Honestly anything I write in this box could not live up to the memories of the trip itself. The people you meet, the organization your work with, and the animals you meet are just unforgettable. I would recommend this to literally anyone looking to learn about wildlife animals or just wants a fun student trip.

South Africa

I went on the South Africa Veterinary Trip with Loop Abroad. We were the very first group there, so everyone was still feeling everything out and seeing what was going to work for us and what wouldn’t. But going was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I think about it everyday and I think a little part of me stayed in Africa. I have no regrets whatsoever. There’s plenty of learning opportunities when it comes to the actual veterinary classes. They also gave us plenty of free time to walk around the sanctuary. Wouldnt trade that experience for the world.

A Burst of Culture and Conservation!

For my Loop Abroad trip, I took part in the High School Veterinary Service Program in Thailand along with an adventure bonus week! It was full of so many beautiful moments that I can’t even write all for them down without smiling, laughing, crying and just feeling all out grateful. I met an incredible group of girls that I know I will have long lasting relationships forever and we all connected on a level where we could be completely comfortable and our weird selves around each other :D It was full of hands on experience with veterinary work, and working with real veterinarians and having their guidance was wonderful. Being at Elephant Nature Park was by far my favorite part of the whole trip. I learned so much in relation to conservation and the protection of Elephants in Thailand as well as veterinary, behavioral and dietary observations. It really opened my eyes to a whole new culture and the way other groups of individuals practice their morals. And in the adventure bonus week, I was able to push myself out of my comfort zone and experience the natural wonders of Thailand! I will never forget this experience, as it has truly changed my whole mindset for the better. :)

I went on the Thailand 101 trip and it was incredible! It was two weeks of nonstop activities and unbelievable places. The staff was extremely helpful, answering all of my questions promptly, and they helped make my experience great. I am still great friends with all the girls in my group to this day. I would definitely recommend Loop to anyone!

A trip of a lifetime

I went on the high school veterinary service trip last summer, and it was an experience I will never forget. The amount of hands-on experience that you get is incredible, and being in such a different culture was eye opening. Overall this company is extremely organized and has great resources to answer any questions you have. All of the staff was really nice and welcoming, and all of the activities we did were safe and very well organized. Through this trip I gained friends, experiences, and memories I will never forget.

Best experience!

I went and did two programs with Loop Abroad. I did two weeks in South Africa and two weeks in Thailand doing vet work. Its was one of the best experiences i have ever had! I knew it was going to be amazing but it was even better than what I imagined. In both programms I learned soo much about the animals and had a lot of hands on experience. I would recommend everyone to go and experience this!

Amazing way to see Thailand

I participated in the 2 week Collage vet service in Thailand and the elephant bonus week to end my trip.
I could not reccomend Loop Abroads Programs more. The trip I went on in Thailand was full of learning and fun times. Each day is organized in a way that the group is doing some sort of activity and having a good time.
I was able to learn and practice a fair amount of veterinary clinical skills and learn a lot about animal behaviour and husbandry. Along with learning about veterinary care, Thai culture was also taught and we had many opportunities to go into the city as a group to see temples, markets and restaurants.
The elephant bonus week was an amazing addition to the trip. My group was at a homestay in a village in Surin for a week and while there we prepared elephants food, had the elephants walk us to the river, practiced clinical skills on the elephants and learned a lot about the village culture.
I had an extremely fun time in Thailand thanks to Loop Abroad!

Life Changing!

I traveled to Thailand for my trip and worked with the pre vet program. It was an absolutely amamzing and life changing experience. I got to learn so much about Thailand’s elephant and work one on one with them. I also got to spend a week at a vet clinic and got to stand in and help with surgeries. All of the faculty were extremely welcoming and kind, and my vets were amazing, as well as my group members, I met some really amazing people. Thailand is also an amazing place and I really enjoyed exploring the city and the temples and learning about Thai culture and eating Thai cuisine. The street waffles are AMAZING.

Amazing Company and Experiences

This past summer of 2018, I participated in all three programs Loop had to offer at the time: South Africa, Australia, and Thailand. They were each unique and catered to the host country and native animals. I gained so much knowledge and experience about veterinary medicine, conservation, ecology, the relationship between humans and animals, people, and myself along with so much about the opportunities there are in the world for animal lovers. The staff was personal and friendly right from the beginning, throughout the planning process, and continued to be super helpful during my trips. They are experienced in travel as well as group travel so all my worries were quickly quieted. Loop is an amazing choice for anyone looking to gain more experience with animals in a safe and knowledgeable setting while also getting to know the people who surround these animals every day.

Unforgettable trip!

When I traveled with Loop Abroad, I knew I was in great hands. We were always with someone that cared about us and helped us with anything we needed. They also gave us enough space for us to do our own things and no one felt like they were being babysat. We had a decent amount of free time, which was nice to relax and have time to talk to family. I loved every bit of my trip!
