Medical students, premedical students , nurses and physiotherapy professionals can volunteer work in Zanzibar.

The different area where interns can be placed are as follows : 

• The maternity ward
• The eye clinic
• Dental department
• Women, children and men wards for general health issues
• Gynaecology department
• Theatre for surgeries
• Physiotherapy (3 physiotherapists work here)
• First Aid department
• Laboratory and research
• X-ray facilities
• Other departments

The duties and the “hands on” work depends on the intern’s knowledge and the year of course. However, the hospital setup helps greatly in getting a first hand experience and a wholesome professional medical experience. The added advantage of the picturesque location will make sure that students on their gap year have a memorable experience in working and exploring the city.
