The Marine Conservation Project is located in Denia, a traditional old fishing town situation 100 km south of Valencia. It is the birthplace of the Marine Reserve in the Cape of San Antonio.
The Valencia coastline is one of the most beautiful parts of Spain. The coast is lined with many, many miles of beaches where people from all over the world can take part in water sports in the sunny weather. However, the increase in tourism has also had serious repercussions for the environment.
Volunteers who take part in this project will be involved in important conservation and research programs, earning valuable new skills as well as helping minimise the environmental impact of increasing tourism.
Volunteer tasks include learning to identify the targeted marine species, cleaning underwater, surveying and collecting data of the underwater habitats of creatures in danger, as well as helping with the logistical operations of the conservation project.
A big highlight is getting to live and to work in a charming coastal town while contributing to the protection of the Mediterranean marine life. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn scuba diving, as well as taking part in other water sports such as snorkelling and sailing.
All year round
Volunteer applicant should be minimum 18 years of age.
