In India there are over 100 million street children, most of which have no access to education. A lot of these live on the streets in places like New Delhi which is quite heartbreaking to see. But there are lots of local NGO's and international volunteer organisations trying to help the situation by operating shelters, orphanages and places where the children can learn and have a place to stay.

Poverty and street children are a big problem in India, rough estimates put the number of street children in the capital at around 1 million which is a really high figure - many of these have either run away from home or were born into poverty.

As a volunteer you can help to, Volunteering India recruit international volunteers all year round to help on street children projects in locations like the capital city - New Delhi. These placements can be quite emotional when you see this kind of poverty in 'real life' but by volunteering your time and skills you will be able to help. You will be able to join projects working alongside local Indian staff and other international volunteers, these placements are really safe and thousands of people have help over the past decade.

Daily duties on street children volunteer projects in India might include helping at shelters providing assistance and generally helping out. You could be leading sports lessons, teaching English, helping children to write and read and also giving them lots of attention and care which they don't usually get in their lives. You will be able to bring a smile to the faces of street children and play a role in their development and integration into society.

When teaching or helping you might make a daily schedule or program of events including playing games to keep the children busy and entertained. Sometimes these placements can be hard work around 5 hours per day all week but they are extremely rewarding and really worthwhile. You can apply to India street children volunteer work placements today and join anytime including next year.

There are short and long term projects and if this sounds appealing to you and you would like more information please contact Volunteering India via the links below.
