For dogs and cats at the shelter to be adopted into homes, it is essential to teach them to trust people and to teach the dogs to walk on a lead. Almost all of our animals are former street animals who have never been indoors and need to learn to feel comfortable around people. Socialisation is especially important for shy animals and those who have been abused. Many adopters say their new companions are very friendly and comfortable with them, even as soon as they arrive from Thailand – this is because of shelter volunteers.

We strongly encourage volunteers to spend a week or longer at our shelter. When volunteers stay for at least a few weeks, they build close relationships with the animals and can see them become more bonded to people.

Many of our volunteers fall in love with one of the dogs or cats at our shelter and adopt them. If you can give a loving home to an animal in need, you might meet your new best friend!

Soi Dog's shelter is open to volunteers from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, with a lunch break from 11:45 to 1. (We're open to visitors until 3:30pm.) Tours for visitors are at 10am and 1:30pm.

Please complete the booking form on our website before volunteering. You will find more information on our website about volunteering.
