We have over 450 acres of private woodland estate bordered by a mile and a half of shoreline onto Lake Windermere, it is considered one of the finest located outdoor centres in the world.

The centre has over 50 year's of experience of pioneering and delivering quality training and development programmes to different School, Youth and Adult groups, providing a unique, safe and challenging location. The centre is a not for profit organisation and educational charity that inspires people to fulfil their potential through challenging outdoor and classroom based experiences.

We’re a happy and hard-working team with a focus on fun, challenging programmes that change young people’s lives for the better.  Based on the south western shores of Lake Windermere, in 400 acres of private woodland, we provide high-quality outdoor adventure holidays and development programmes for schools, youth groups, corporate clients and families.

Outdoor Activity Instructors approximately 50 staff required.

YMCA Lakeside is a very busy and highly respected Outdoor Adventure and Education Residential Centre. We are known for delivering inspirational, exciting and challenging outdoor adventures for personal and social development. We are looking for hard working, professional and self-driven individuals that bring a high level of creativity and passion to their work. You will take on real responsibility and help our young clients flourish.

Our clients include schools, colleges, youth-groups, corporate and family, which gives you a great opportunity to learn and develop, broaden your instructional skills and deepen your knowledge and practice of “Learning Outside the Classroom”.

Based in the southern Lake District on the edge of Windermere with ½ mile of shoreline we are ideally placed for Sailing and Paddle-sports.  Climbing is served by our three climbing crags which together with many of our other activities are based in the 450 acres of woodland surrounding us.  For bigger adventures, and in your own time too, there are the Mountains, Crags, Caves, Rivers and Lakes all around us.

We are looking for 20 Full Season Outdoor Education Instructors, starting Monday 9th March 2020, with contracts initially until Friday 30th October. Although, if business permits, contracts may be extended.  The full season starts with 2 intense weeks of paid induction training from highly qualified and experienced staff and covers all the activities we expect you will be able to do.

We will pay you £15269 pro rata based on a 37.5hr week, with a pay review 1st April 2020 and give you the option of subsidised on-site accommodation and meals. We also issue you a quality uniform.

You need a MINIMUM of one NGB assessment and one other NGB training in any of the following: Paddlesport Instructor (BCU L1 Coach) plus a 3*, RCI (SPA), RYA Dinghy Instructor plus Safety Boat or Summer ML and will be able to demonstrate a good level of previous instructional experience.

The short term season starts with 7 days of paid induction training from highly qualified and experienced staff, concentrating on ensuring you can deliver your own area of expertise and a core range of other activities.

We will pay you £15269 pro rata based on a 37.5hr week, with a pay review 1st April and give you the option of subsidised on-site accommodation and meals. We also issue you with high quality uniform for the season.

The season starts with 2 intense weeks of induction training from highly qualified and experienced staff. It includes a 16 hour Outdoor First Aid course and covers all the activities we expect you will be able to do.

We will provide you with full board, inclusive of food and shared accommodation, and a volunteer expenses allowance of £50 per week. We also issue you with high quality uniform for the season.

This position is best suited to individuals that are passionate to learn and develop their own knowledge and skills within the outdoor setting. You will be given hands on experience to deliver competent and safe Outdoor Learning, with a highly respected organisation dedicated to the delivery of Outdoor and adventurous activities.

Volunteer Instructors who achieve the qualifications required of an instructor during their contract are eligible to be up-graded to full instructor status with the relevant contract terms and conditions.
