Camp Oakhurst

Camp Oakhurst, established in 1906, is operated by New York Service for the Handicapped (NYSH), an independent non-profit social service agency with offices in New York City and Oakhurst, New Jersey.

NYSH provides out-of-home overnight respite (planned and emergency), summer sleep away camp, and day respite services to children and adults with special needs, including autism and physical and developmental disabilities. Our campus is fully accessible and barrier free for wheelchair users, including our heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, and many other adapted therapeutic recreational activities.

Camp Oakhurst is only about 55 miles south of New York City, but for the more than 800 children and adults with special needs who attend our programs each year, it feels like a long way from home–and that’s just the way they like it.

Camp Oakhurst Reviews

Camp Oakhurst 2017

I'm in my second month of camp, I honestly can't expect it to get any better it's unbelievable.

I've wanted to work at a summer camp since I was a lot younger, now I'm here working at camp for adults and children with physical and intellectual disabilities and every single day I learn something new.

As much as I'm here to help these wonderful people they help me, they teach me and inspire me everyday. I have met people that have changed my view of the world and I've met people that I will keep in my heart forever. My director is amazing and so are all of the staff here, endless fun and a self rewarding job.

I would urge anyone to work at Camp Oakhurst once at least, it's indescribable. Thank you Camp Oakhurst ❤️
