24 Hours in Melaka
Thinking about adding Melaka to your itinerary? Good decision, this is one of the top destinations to see in Malaysia. If you are planning a stop and would like to do it as cheap as possible here are some top tips for places to stay, eat and things to do - most of which are completely free and can be done in 1 day.
Where to Stay
Stay at the Discovery Cafe, a cheap and cheerful option at around £2 a night with free breakfast of tea/coffee and toast, and within walking distance of all of the places you would want to see.
Lunch
Grab a roti in Little India. Restoran Sri Mawar Ria, in the Melaka bus terminal is a cheap place to eat, try the Tonsai Masala which is amazing - onions, peppers and potatoes with cheese wrapped in a bread and served with dipping sauces - I had mine with local Melaka coffee, make sure you chat to the manager if he is there, he is lovely.
Dinner
Try the Geographer cafe: curry ramen is where its at. We also tried some street food called Banda Raya Propia as there was a huge queue for it - not too sure what it was and not too sure whether I liked it.
Evenings
Admire the lights on the riverwalk (totally free). Visit the night market on Jonker Walk - you can go and sample different fruits like jackfruit. Take a photo in the vibrant tuk-tuks.
So there you have it, Melaka in meals (I live my life meal to meal) and also in activities, I would definitely recommend a visit even for just a day - you cannot be bored in this city.
