Company : International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ)
Activities: Animal Volunteer Projects / Community Volunteer Projects
Location : Antigua
Duration: 2 weeks to 1 Year+
Approx Costs: 250 to 1000 $ Dollars (US)
On this project you will work to protect animals and provide human company, medical treatment, and playtime for the animals.
Culturally speaking, in Latin America dogs and cats are not really looked upon as integral members of the family the way they are in more developed countries and you can apply to help. This often this leads to neglect and animals being abandoned on the streets.
As a volunteer you will help bathing and brushing the animals, providing basic obedience training, cleaning cages, and walking and playing with the them; small construction projects like building dogs runs and creating fences along with photography and fund raising are other activities that volunteers do.
They also lead educational programs in local schools, spay/neuter programs, rabies vaccination clinics, and fund-raising events. The center also cares with snakes, lizards, arthropods, alligators and more animals.
Programs begin on each Monday of every month. This program has a two week minimum commitment.
- You must be over 18 years of age at the beginning of the program
- Volunteers must provide a criminal background check
- Spanish is not a prerequisite for the IVHQ Guatemala program
