Sanitation, overcrowding, and poverty all contribute to illness, especially among the poor. Join International Medical Relief in providing quality medical care for the communities surrounding Mumbai.

This is a festival trip! Holi, the festival of colors, is truly one of the most magnificent sites to see! In Mumbai you’ll see music, rain dances, and the classic colored powder thrown all throughout the streets to celebrate the coming of spring. Some of the colors are tricky to wash out of clothes, so be sure to bring clothes that you don’t mind staining. Bring a white shirt for a colorful memorable keepsake!

You can expect to see a high patient load with a variety of chronic & acute illnesses. The most common include dengue fever, hepatitis, malaria, pneumonia, and digestive diseases. Skin infections and parasites are extremely common and very detrimental to healthy communities. Children are especially at risk for developing acute illnesses in this area of India. In addition to medical care, dental care and eye care are two highly sought-after specialities in this region.

After clinic, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Mumbai! One afternoon, your team will enjoy a boat ride to the Elephanta Island to visit the Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  You will see awe-inspiring carvings in the cave temples created over 3,000 years ago.

No adventure to Mumbai is complete without a visit to the Gateway of India. This iconic arch is often referred to as the “Taj Mahal of Mumbai”. Towering at 85 feet high and located on the waterfront at Apollo Bunder, it’s easy to see why this is a top attraction.

Sample some of the most exquisite cuisine in the world. Enjoy several cups of classic Indian chai throughout your week. Your team will also visit the Muslim quarter to walk through hundreds of stalls of fresh produce. And of course, explore the colorful sites of Bollywood while learning a Bollywood dance! There’s so much to be seen in Mumbai!

In the evening, reconvene for dinners & a debriefing after your day at clinic.  You will have some time to socialize with new friends and enjoy knowing that your clinic day was a success.

The team will be staying in a safe and comfortable hotel. The accommodation provides air conditioning, private bathrooms, and a great lounge area to spend time getting to know your fellow team. Everyone will have their own bed.  If you fly on the group ticket, all transfers will be arranged for you and are included in your fee.

While the most rewarding aspect of this trip will be caring for the people of India, the team will also have the opportunity to visit some of the country’s top attractions. The trip’s highlights include participating in India’s free-for-all color festival, visiting the famous Gateway of India, exploring the Elephanta Caves, and learning a traditional Bollywood dance.

You have the option to extend your stay to explore more of India’s culture, architecture, and scenery. If you choose to do so, further accommodation and transportation will be arranged for a small fee.
