Volunteer Conservation Projects with Sharks

Spend 2 weeks up to 6 months volunteering on shark conservation programs and get the unique experience of a lifetime – unrivalled by any annual leave or gap year taken by your friends!

With Oyster Worldwide you will get your voluntary placement pre-arranged before you leave home and comfortable accommodation, full 24hr in-country support, briefings, advice and airport transfers. They can also arrange competitive return flights to Cape Town.

What will I be doing?

You will be observing sharks in their natural habitat and running tourist trips to make others love sharks as much as you do – ultimately helping to end cruel and detrimental practices like shark finning. Research into sharks is absolutely fundamental as they are an ‘indicator species’, meaning that as long as the sharks are kept healthy then so is the eco-system as a whole. The eco-system would be completely out of balance without sharks. Spend your days out on the crystal clear waters getting great experience – especially if marine biology is a particular interest of yours. You are in the perfect location for enjoying Cape Town’s great restaurants and nightlife and the amazing beaches all around you. While there, why not stay a little longer and travel South Africa – the opportunities are endless and you’ll come back with lasting memories of your unique once-in-a-lifetime trip.
