Egypt Travel and Tours Advice
Thinking about travelling in Egypt but worried about the recently policital turmoil? Oasis Overlands Operations Manager in Egypt - Keren on how life is returning to normal...
Keren commented " I live in Egypt permanently with my two young children - its my home, and I was sad when we had to leave for two weeks during the height of the Revolution. We've been back for over a month now and things are much more settled, with this amazing air of optimism permeating throughout the country. The locals are excited about the future and what has been achieved so far. The country now needs the return of the tourism industry - this was obviously badly affected by the situation - but things are already picking up especially in the Red Sea area and throughout Luxor & Aswan. Cairo is also seeing a return of the tour groups and individual travellers, and all the historical sites are open and looking as amazing as usual. Its actually a great time to visit Egypt, sites are quieter than usual and the optimism for the future of the country is palpable".
Meet the Crew - Jenny one of Oasis Overland tour leaders in Egypt: Q&A
What do you like about Egypt?
I love the people. Visiting the ancient archeological sites is a given and one of the main reasons why people choose Egypt as their holiday destination but it is the local people that make the whole experience so special and a holiday they will remember for years to come. I am very lucky to be in Egypt during an such an historic moment in time and the mood of the people and atmosphere here is one of pride and optimism for the future. The Egyptians have a wonderful passion for celebration and their sense of humour keeps me laughing for hours.
What’s your favourite place in Egypt?
Wherever I am at the time.. but of course Dahab will always be a special place, having spent the past few weeks here getting to know the local people and being part of their spontaneous celebrations and many a conversation about life in Egypt, the politics and hope for the future.
What do you like most about Tour Leading?
Sharing my passion for learning about different cultures and places.
Funniest thing you’ve seen travelling with oasis in the last year?
Everyday something funny happens on the road, especially here. Last year in Malawi one of the passengers asked a local if he could get him some chicken to cook for dinner that night from the village, you can imagine his surprise when two live chickens were delivered to the front gate.
Food you miss on the road?
Mint slice biscuits, fresh milk and walaby stew... oops I mean sloppy meat pies....
