Australia Volunteer Conservation Programs

Volunteer in Australia: Conservation volunteers are making a massive difference in Australia flood operation. In the wake of some of the worst flooding that Australia has ever seen, the Gympie council has said that the help of volunteers has ensured minimal stock losses for the region’s farmers. Volunteers in Queensland through Oyster Worldwide are helping to rebuild fencing and carry out property repairs in the region.

Gympie Mayor Ron Dyne says it is essential work.

“New fencing is the priority, we have had a generous donation of fence posts and people are utilising those, they’ve had access out of the Kilkivan area, just to try and establish those fence lines again to contain stock because at the present moment you have the potential for stock to be wandering far and wide,” he said.

“Look, there’s a fair bit of work still to be done but I think that they’ve really broken the back of it now with their assistance to farmers and I think that it’s going to be, although an ongoing task for farmers, it’s one that everyone’s quite able to cope with.”

However, other areas of Queensland and Victoria are still crying out for help.
