Australia Floods: Conservation Volunteering

Volunteer in Australia. The recent flooding in Australia has caused extensive devastation to huge areas of Queensland. As the rain continues to fall, a lot of assistance will be needed in the months to come... The clean up operation has already begun in many areas, and WAVA is stepping up its commitment to help its partner organisation in Australia find volunteers for its restoration projects.

Whilst the latest reports show that water levels have reached their peak in many areas, December through to March in Queensland is typically a very wet season so it could take several weeks before the floodwaters completely subside.

For the last three years WAVA have been offering a Conservation Volunteer programme in Australia that offers volunteers the chance to work with environmental projects across the whole of Australia, including Brisbane the capital city of Queensland.

In light of recent events, WAVA's partner organisation in Australia will be needing volunteers to assist in various restoration activities in the area, namely repairing fences, restoring tracks and trails, habitat restoration, tree planting and wildlife surveys, among others.

We must stress that given the current scale of flooding in Australia, WAVA's partner organisation will only require volunteers once the situation has become more stable.

In the meantime, they are taking all the necessary steps required to ensure that volunteers are safe, and the valuable restoration projects continue to operate.
