Volunteer and Teach in Africa this Fall
It’s that time of year when the summer sun is high and we soak in the last few weeks of summer’s heat. Soon it will be back to the bustle of school, work, or…..ahem, is that volunteering in Africa we see on your horizon? The youth population in Sub-Saharan Africa is exploding. Local school systems struggle to keep up with an ever-growing number of children. As a volunteer with The Humanity Exchange, you’ll make valuable contributions by teaching or assisting in local schools.
Register by August 15th for a teaching in Africa program starting anytime before Dec 1st & receive $100 off of your program fee with The Humanity Exchange.
“How can I make a difference as a volunteer?” you ask. Good question! Sometimes the schools simply do not have enough teachers. For example, The Humanity Exchanges partner, Word Alive School, had six teachers for eight classes earlier this year. Thus, volunteers jumped right in and taught classes of up to twenty children, complimenting local curriculum with their own skills and background. But if taking the reins isn’t for you, it is possible to assist local teachers and run extracurricular activities. For example, THEX volunteers have introduced educational games, activities to promote healthy lifestyle, and geography lessons. Not only is the student to teacher ratio improved, as a volunteer you will add cultural diversity and infuse new ideas into local classrooms.
Sound challenging? It is (in a good way)! More than anything, volunteering as teacher in Africa is an exhilarating and exciting learning experience.
Who can volunteer?
Anybody can volunteer. While it is helpful to have teaching experience, you do not have to be trained as a teacher. Previous experience with children is helpful. An attitude of learning combined with a desire for new experiences is key.
Where can I volunteer?
This fall The Humanity Exchange need teachers in Cameroon, Benin, & Ghana.
How do I get started?
Apply today! The Humanity Exchange will respond to your application in no more than three business days. Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview. Then, as a registered volunteer, we’ll get you started on preparations for going abroad.
