Volunteer in the Dominican Republic

Volunteer in the Dominican Republic

The Espernza Project is based in the quiet, picturesque town of Cabrera on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. It is a non-profit organization founded and run by two highly energetic and highly qualified young educators, who are focused on providing a high quality, project-based educational program, as well as a completely free summer camp for local youth to participate in extra-curricular activities throughout the summer months.

The Esperanza Project runs a small educational program which is focused on providing an affordable, yet high quality, student-centered, English-based program, which aims to create a structured and differentiated learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. The students of The Esperanza Project Educational Institute are actively involved in designing and running projects which seek to help and improve the local community, which in turn fosters academic growth and overall social development. The project currently caters to 18 students, from 4 to 15 years of age.

They are currently recruiting volunteers for the 2011/2012 school year. The program will begin on September 1st, 2011 and run until June 1st, 2012. Volunteers would have the option of staying for the full academic year or for a period of 3+ months.

All volunteers must be 18 years of age or over by September 1st, 2011. Volunteers should be patient, responsible, enthusiastic, hard-working, and most importantly, enjoy working with children and youth. They should be open to experiencing and becoming part of a new culture. Past classroom experience and/or a teaching certificate would be an advantage, but not essential.

If you would like more information on the educational program or would like to apply to become a volunteer, please contact Fiona via email at info@esperanzaproject.ca or visit www.esperanzaproject.ca.
