Best Areas to Stay in Rio de Janeiro

Rio is a large city with various different areas, we recommend staying in Copacobana or Lapa for beaches and nightlife, or for somewhere more cultured you might want to consider Santa Teresa. Due to the popularity of Rio, this makes accommodation and hostel prices more expensive than other parts of the country. There are lots of cheap hostels in Lapa which is perfect if you are looking to party - don't expect a quiet night sleep especially at weekends where the are bars and clubs pumping out music till the early hours.

Cost

Finding very cheap hostels in Rio can be tricky but there is a lot of options due to the size of the city. The most expensive hostels are generally located around Copacabana and Lapa on the beachfront so avoid these if you are on a budget. You might want to stay further out of the beach area to get the best deals on accommodation but always research an area to make sure it is safe. For a bed in a dorm this generally costs around £10 whilst a private will be double approximately £20 per night - this really depends on the hostel though.

Hostels in Rio During Carnival

Getting a hotel room or hostel bed can be really difficult at certain times of the year like Carnival in March, holidays and also New Year. If you are looking to visit Brazil during Carnival then you will need to book accommodation months in advance, expect prices to be a lot higher than other times of the year. You might want to view our tours in Rio de Janeiro which features Rio Carnival Accommodation Packages.
