UBELONG volunteers from Rice University head to Huancyo, Peru

Alexa Juarez is a freshman at Rice University in Texas and a UBELONG Campus Leader. In May of this year she led five of her classmates to Huancayo, Peru for two weeks. The team worked on the “helping in a day care center” and “teaching English” Immersion projects. They also renovated classrooms by cleaning them and painting murals with materials they collected prior to their trip from friends, family and local businesses. In addition to Alexa, UBELONG caught up with three members of the team, Jacinta Leyden, Lauren Lyssy and Joyce Chou, to hear their thoughts about their experience. UBELONG was also proud to have awarded these four UBELONG volunteers the US President’s Volunteer Service Award in recognition of their service and commitment to inspire others to volunteer.
