Iceland is a country of extreme geological contrasts. With one of the most geologically and volcanically active landscapes in the world, while being home of the largest glaciers in Europe.

Iceland is also the land of light and darkness. Long summer days with near 24-hours of sunshine are offset by short winter days with only a few hours of daylight. Why don’t you make this country not your home for a while? Thanks to Worldwidefriends this is possible.

Volunteering

The main activity in our organization is organizing and coordinating workcamps with volunteers from all over the world.

Our workcamps are a place where people of all origins, ideologies and nationalities can live and work together for 10 days up to 2 weeks on a project hosted by a local community or by WF. We organize these camps in different places in Iceland. Our camps take place all year round. Each camp has its own individuality, different day activities and goals. You can participate in such workcamp as a short-term volunteer or a long-term volunteer.

Short-term Volunteering:
As a short-term volunteer you participate in a project that you can choose from the list. Every project has its own theme, goals and day activities where you will participate with 6 to 25 other volunteers. They are a multicultural voluntary team led by a minimum of two work camp leaders.

Long-term Volunteering:
If you want to stay longer than 2 weeks, you can take part as an long-term volunteer. This program can last 3 months, 6 months (mostly recommended) or a year. Your most important tasks are to organize and coordinate worcamps as a work camp leader or take part in the office to bookkeep, plan projects, keep in touch with the intercultural cooperation, etc.

Summer Camp

In this adventure camp you will travel around Iceland’s Ring Road. Visit the most beautiful places on the island and one of its best-kept secrets: Vestmannaeyjar Islands. With exciting activities: kayaking, horseback riding, whale watching, and more. Adventure camps are for teens 15 to 17 years old with a special focus on creative photographing.

During the camp our teenagers will also have an exploration of photography in the digital age to help students learn how to get the most out of their cameras while being creative in the process. They will get a hands-on instruction and experience with the tools necessary to research, compose, capture, and refine digital photographic projects.

We will mostly focus on nature when it comes to topic and we encourage our participants to be creative. Iceland is a magic country for photographers, so we are sure that our group will have a lot of great photos and memories when they return home after the camp.
