Work in a fantastic school in Santiago looking after children with visual impairments, total blindness, and associated disabilities
You will be expected to go to the school every day to support its mission, which is to give children with blindness, visual impairments and related disabilities a chance to enjoy education and a strong start in life, and thereby ultimately become fully integrated members of society.
Volunteer work, depending on the background and skills of the volunteer, will typically consist of:
* Supporting the teachers and staff whilst teaching the kids
* Organizing games and activities after class time
The working hours will be agreed with the head teacher of the school before the placement starts according to the needs of the school at that time.
The most common working hours are between 9am until midday and then from 2pm until 9pm. The first part of the day is when most help is needed as the classes take place in the morning and this is the busiest time of day.
From 4 to 8 weeks.
We welcome people to this programme between March/April and December, at any time between these months.
* Minimum age: 18 years old
* Language abilities: English speaker (intermediate to advanced); Spanish speaker (intermediate)
* You do not need any previous experience to come and work with us, but the work can be emotionally demanding so we expect applicants to be mature, responsible, open-minded, autonomous and have a natural ability to work with children
* If you do have some experience working with young children or in special schools, this is a programme you will absolutely love
* The more time and effort you are willing to put into this project, the more you will get in return
* And finally, you just need to be happy to work in a special school and have a great sense of humour!
