Children's Activity Leader & Teaching Assistant Work in Romania

General Info

The organisation you will be volunteering with works with several care homes in Romania, each taking in abandoned, orphaned or abused children. Volunteers will involve themselves with the day to day activities of the children's homes which are often under staffed and in desperate need of volunteers.

The homes are small centres which cater between 8 and 20 children normally - the largest project has 70 children! Activities can range from organising extra curricular activities like arts and crafts, music, dance and drama to helping children with their tuition.

The staff can provide ongoing support during your volunteering experience till you get comfortable with the children and are able to take more of an initiative.

There are local primary schools around the different projects where some of the children study. Some schools have one English teacher, some schools have two, so there is a need for volunteers. There is the added opportunity of helping at the primary schools and assisting with teaching English. During holidays time or term-times teaching English is part of the project.

Requirements:

* You must be over 18 years old.
* Previous experience of working with children will help but is not essential.
* An openess and respect for new and different cultures.
* International volunteers welcome.
