For all its magnificence, however, Cambodia remains one of the poorest countries in South East Asia. This project will present you with the unique opportunity to work with enthusiastic and lively Cambodians and contribute to providing an improved quality of life for rural communities. You will become heavily involved in teaching and playing with local school children, renovating village infrastructure, regular on-site village restoration and clean-ups, and other community development initiatives. The work you’ll carry out will be rewarding, challenging, and hugely beneficial, as well as being fantastic fun. You will gain immense satisfaction from knowing that all your efforts are going towards improving the quality of life for so many people. Take part in this once in a life time opportunity and never look back!

WHAT DOES THE PROJECT DO?

The aim of the Cambodia Island Community Development Project is to facilitate and implement the development objectives of this local NGO in order to improve the lives of the local islanders of Koh Rong Samloem. Poverty, and it's consequential impacts such as lack of education, inadequate health care, and poor infrastructure have left the people of rural Cambodia particularly vulnerable. This capacity building project is based within the only village on the island and works to support a range of education and renovation projects. For all its vulnerabilities, this Cambodian island is a beautiful, awe inspiring location that will motivate and encourage you to help these warm hearted friendly people.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

Although day to day activities may vary throughout your stay on this glorious island, improving community infrastructure, providing crucial teaching support and training, whilst additionally renovating community buildings and developing regular village clean-up and recycling projects will form the basis of your daily itinerary. There will undoubtedly be lots of additional community activities for you to lend a helping hand to!

You will be working in the heart of the island community, getting involved in important tasks. The people you are helping will be very hard working and appreciative of your contribution to their community, and will be incredibly responsive to your presence on the project. Although the work may occasionally be arduous, it will be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, creating memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life!
