Imizamu Yethu is a township where parents and children face many challenges. Children are often unsupervised after school whilst their parent/s are at work and thus vulnerable. There is little space for them to play in.

Home of Hope is an oasis in the desert of the township. Here there is a small football pitch, a big green lawn and a jungle gym. Children have the space to play and just be kids again. They get a meal (sometimes their only one of the day), help with their homework, games to play and fun activities to do. There's a library as well, and every so often they go on trips to places like the beach or aquarium.

The project has an extremely well structured and well run volunteering programme. The volunteers here are as important as the permanent staff. This is because the leadership understand the needs of volunteers as well as well as their value to the project.

The accommodation is exceptional, one of the best volunteering houses in South Africa and you even get your own room (subject to availability). Hout Bay is a town 20km south of Cape Town. It is a sought after destination for its natural beauty (sea, mountains, rivers, beaches and more). It's diversity of cultures make it a microcosm of South African society, where rich rub shoulders with poor.

There are so many activities for volunteers: Markets, fishing, surfing, beaching, horse riding, hiking, a wine route, a working harbour, museums, art galleries, boat trips and more. Cape Town is just a 20 min cab ride away.
