Duties and responsibilities

The employee’s duties and responsibilities will include the following:

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

 

1. The ability to ride a horse is a MUST, as a horse will be required to carry out the functions of the job

2.  Receive and process new cattle (tag, vaccinate, implant, etc.), assessing animal health and providing treatment where necessary.

3.  General administration of herd health, checking pens for herd health; check cattle for illnesses & injuries, pull and treat with medication where necessary, recording with computer software.

4. Maintain accurate cattle records, quality control/production records, using computer software.

5.  Move cattle when required, sort to ship, and load for shipping.

6.  Follow a feeding program, provide feed rations, monitor food and water supplies regularly.

7. Assist Manager/Supervisors in problem solving any situations that may occur in the yard.

 

 

Minor Duties & Responsibilities:

 

1. Consult with and assist herd veterinarians. required to cattle, may operate feed truck to deliver feed to pens when necessary.

2. Ensure water systems are operational and repair when needed.

3. Assist with general maintenance of yard equipment and machinery used in cattle care, maintenance of pens including scraping/hauling manure as required, general maintenance of fences, corrals, gates and holding systems.

 

Qualifications

 

• Education: No minimal education requirements

• Experience/Specialized knowledge & skills: Experience in the industry is considered an asset, however training will be provided but MUST have strong horseman ship skills
