Medical Internship in Goa, India

Company : Tru Experience Travel
Duration: 2 weeks to 1 Year+
Approx Costs: 500 to 2500 £ Pound (UK)

A fantastic opportunity to enhance your medical studies with some real life voluntary experience in Goa.

Aiming to cater for the needs of the local community, the project strives to deliver the most effective treatment possible while working within the confines of the hospital’s financial restraints and low resources. Included in the hospital’s work is the objective of improving the health of the inhabitants of the local community.

Perfect for students with a medical background, you will work as an intern, under the guidance of a doctor, at a hospital that receives patients from all walks of life. Fully trained, English-speaking staff will be available to you at all times. Your day-to-day role at the hospital, located in the North Goan area, will depend on your experience and confidence. If you’re looking to get meaningful, authentic medical experience abroad as part of your studies, or during a gap year, this could be the project for you!

Following your initial orientation week at the location, a formal introduction will take place on your first day at the project. On this day, your learning will focus on the history of the hospital and the expectations for your direct role at the hospital during your internship. As with all participants, your first few days will be spent shadowing a local doctor or nurse, who will be English-speaking. During this time, you will further develop your understanding of the nature of the hospital and standard practices that exist within Indian Medicine. Following this period of shadowing, you will be given duties and roles, performing as a regular member of staff.

Facilities at the hospital include an x-ray room, operating theatre, an A&E room, and adult patient’s room, a paediatric patient’s room and a critical ward. During your time at the project you will be able to choose between carrying out a rotational practice in all the areas of the hospital, or to focus on one for the entirety of your stay.  After working for a week, you will have a feedback session. This will be an opportunity to receive constructive advice from colleagues, to share your professional ideas and findings with the local staff and to give suggestions to improve the functionality of the hospital.
