The law practice where you'll be placed has been in existence since the 1980's and their legal areas of expertise are varied, enabling you to get a wide experience. Their offices are situated in the CBD, so you'll be very conveniently positioned.

A period of work experience such as this will give you a good insight into the practice of law and the standards expected by employers. It will also demonstrate to employers that you are serious about a career in law and are motivated and committed. Experience in another country is looked upon highly as it increases your knowledge and shows that you are capable of being independent.

You’ll have the opportunity to work in different areas during your stay, depending on your skills and preferences and what work is available at the time

As with any law internship, the work you’ll be involved with will vary according to your own abilities and attitude, and to what the company requires from you at the time you’re there - these will be dictated by the practice. Exactly what your office work will involve will vary from day to day, case to case and intern to intern, but the all-round exposure you'll gain will give you an extraordinary insight into Australian law.

You'll work during the firm’s business hours, which are 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. When entering into a period of work experience, you take on certain responsibilities and obligations. These include:

  • Carrying out the duties required by your supervisor
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of the practice and clients
  • Managing time, effort and resources to develop good working practices
  • Seeking clarification through questioning
  • Carrying out all tasks to the best of your ability

Your accommodation is located in the CBD (Central Business District) of Perth, Western Australia. Therefore you are very central, close to the main train station and shopping district. You'll live with other Travellers volunteers in a very friendly and relaxing Lodge which is ideal for long-term stays. You may have your own room or you may share a room with other volunteers. There is an excellent kitchen and storage area for cooking meals and plenty of space to relax.

Entertainment at your accommodation currently includes a pool table, cheap internet access, arcade machines and cable TV (Foxtel), to name a few. But with all the sunshine Perth has, you’ll be out and about enjoying the many outdoor activities! You are literally a stroll from the Swan River and free CBD transport. Trains and buses are also only a few minutes away to take you to Fremantle, King’s Park or to the many other ‘things to do’!

Projects start every Thursday, all year round – you choose your start and finish dates.

Costs / Benefits

From £2595 for 4 weeks, then £300 for each additional week. Price includes:

You should either be fully qualified or have completed at least 2 years of a Law degree.
Minimum age 20.
This is a tough and demanding placement and you should be proactive, hard-working and have lots of initiative. The company will expect you to come forward and not sit in the corner waiting for tasks to be given to you.
