General Info
Tourist Volunteers is an international organization for all your traveling and volunteering in Ghana with the main aim of improve the lives of children living in deprived communities.
The Need for Volunteers:
Every voluntary organization needs volunteers to help run their programs and Tourist Volunteers is no different but we provide you voluntary work programs that enables you to immerse yourself in the culture of the people and where your service is needed. We facilitate in providing you services to help transform the lives of others, and help you to form positive lifelong memories to take home with you from Ghana.
We have a minimum age policy of 18 years but no upper level as we welcome volunteers of all ages. Our previous volunteers have helped to build schools, dig wells and bore holes, teach, and care for the many orphans who live in our children?s home. The work is both rewarding and worthwhile and many of our volunteers return regularly to keep up the good work.
Your Volunteering Experience:
We like to think that our range of volunteer opportunities is varied enough to suit most people and that each one offers a unique and exciting experience. We try to place people on the program of their choice but depending on numbers, this might not always be possible.
Before you arrive we?ll let you know the details of your accommodation, usually homestay and any other important information about your visit. Once you?re here you?ll have an orientation to Ghana and a full induction to your program. Daily supervision and regular mentoring sessions should ensure that we fulfill all your expectations of being a volunteer with us.
Other aspects that we hope will enrich your experience as a volunteer include a traditional welcome ceremony provided by the Chief of a local village, your homestay accommodation where you can learn so much more about Ghanaian culture, visiting the local market and bartering over prices the Ghanaian way, and the chance to attend dancing and drumming lessons at Tamale?s Cultural Centre. Tamale is a thriving town with an active trade centre and offer most modern amenities including internet café?s, mobile phones, local food and many restaurants.
There is no doubt that Ghanaians love visitors and particularly volunteers. You?ll find that these are some of the friendliest people you?ll ever meet and their culture is a fascinating blend of traditional and modern. We?d be surprised if you didn?t make many friends during your time here and find it hard to say goodbye at the end of your stay!
