Since 2000, the Institute’s internationally recognized TEFL Certificate Program has trained over 2400 English teachers, many of whom now form a world-wide network in over 30 countries, including the United States. The Wall Street Journal has lauded this program as “one of the better known programs in the country.”
At any one time, we are teaching 45 to 50 languages in evening, weekday and Saturday sessions, both in private lessons and small classes of 4 to 12 students. Instruction takes place both at the Institute in Kenmore Square and on-site at corporate locations.
We employ the Communicative Approach, which can be summarized as developing student performance using every aspect of language learning – speaking, listening, reading and writing -- to support the others. Teachers focus on stimulating student speech rather than merely lecturing. Exploring the culture, a feature of all of our programs, brings the language home.
Many of our 120 skilled and experienced instructors have served the Institute for 5 to 15 or more years and some over 20. No small number are graduates of our TEFL Certificate Program, which will train you to teach any language you speak.
Cross Cultural Consulting is another service we provide to companies and governments doing business internationally. People from different cultures understand and respond to the same situation differently, with neither necessarily being right or wrong. In a nutshell, in seminars and private coaching, we explain why they act the way they do, why we act the way we do and how, by understanding each other, you build a successful relationship.
