In 1984, Marcia Evans founded Academic Study Associates with the goal of facilitating global understanding for high school students through unique educational summer programs. Today, our name has changed, but our mission has stayed the same. We continue to offer programs that emphasize cultural engagement, travel, exploration, recreation, language study, academic enrichment, social engagement, responsibility, independence and personal growth.

Pre-college Campus Experience
Each Summerfuel Pre-College program gives high school students a chance to live like an undergraduate and enjoy a preview of university life. Students are inspired by active, engaging curricula designed to help them think critically, explore new subjects and discover their passions. Classes are balanced by a full schedule of afternoon activities, evening events and excursions intended to offer fun, interesting ways to connect with new friends and make the most of students’ time
on campus.
Cultural Exploration
For over thirty years, Summerfuel has offered high school students a unique way of visiting Europe. Rather than a whirlwind visit to major tourist destinations, we give students the chance to settle into one country and study its culture, language, people and traditions as an insider, rather than as a tourist. Summerfuel study abroad programs strive to facilitate global understanding for high school students by offering programs that emphasize: cultural engagement, travel, exploration, recreation, language study, academic enrichment, social engagement, responsibility, independence and personal growth.
Business & Entrepreneurship
Summerfuel's Business & Entrepreneurship programs aim to expose high school students to the cross-disciplinary skills necessary to build effective and efficient enterprises. Each program incorporates project-based learning, core business skills seminars and leadership workshops to build the next generation of business innovators. Engaging coursework will inspire students to think critically and creatively about modern challenges and work collaboratively to produce scalable and sustainable solutions.
College Admissions Edge
Our College Admissions Prep programs prepare high school students for the competitive and demanding college admissions process through one-on-one college counseling, practical college admissions workshops, intensive SAT and ACT preparation with the Princeton Review, and excellent essay writing instruction. In a community of their peers, students dedicate themselves to the development of vital self-presentation skills and a clear application strategy. In two short weeks, students gain the tools and experiences to approach the college admissions process with greater confidence and focus.
