We work for community development, agriculture development, environment protection towards sustainable development.

Rwanda Initiative for Sustainable Environment and Agriculture (RISE) was officially launched late 2005 when Rwanda’s new strategy, the Economic Development and Poverty and Reduction Strategy (EDPRS), and Poverty – Environment Initiative (PEI) were under discussion and development in the framework of sustainable development of the country.

The country’s environmental challenges such as deforestation, soil erosion, overgrazing, misuse of wetlands, poor waste management - and poor agricultural practices - were being counteracted by policies, programmes, legal and institutional instruments to safeguard the present and future generation to ensure sustainable development. Environmentally moved minds were intensifying measures and interventions to safeguard environment and or embarking on actions to protect, conserve, preserve and improve the quality of environment.

The need to end extreme poverty and hunger, and improve agricultural productivity and profitability was the slogan of the day and,thus, a strategic direction of the future.

Our mission is

To contribute to the country’s sustainable development through increased agricultural productivity using environmentally friendly production methods.

We pursue this mission by implementing community based projects that:
Promote appropriate land management practices;
Enhance environmentally friendly farming practices;
Support recommended soil conservation practices;
Encourage biodiversity protective faming systems;
Advocate for adoption or enforcement of environmentally friendly policies and laws;
Build upon local and international partnerships for capacity building and institutional strengthening; and
Conduct research geared towards agriculture and environment programs enhancement; and
Advocate for and promote sharing and learning for sustainable development.
