Our Goals

  • Focus on rigorous science to educate the public & advocacy toward policymakers to achieve conservation, protection, and restoration of coral reefs
  • Increase public awareness of the importance and value of living coral reef ecosystems
  •  Increase scientific understanding and knowledge of living coral reef ecosystems
  •  Strengthen grassroots community-based efforts to protect coral reef ecosystems
  • Design, develop, support, and implement strategies for marine protected areas associated with coral reef ecosystems
  • Support eco-tourism as part of sustainable community development that protects and preserves coral reef ecosystems

Internships

College students are encouraged to apply for internships in Key West, FL. Events, marketing, education, and marine projects: Interns selected will help to organize and staff events, promote Reef Relief and its programs, present classroom lessons on marine science and work on marine field projects as needed.  This internship is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience in marine education and conservation as well as marketing and event planning.  Reef Relief is a non-profit organization so all internships are unpaid and housing is not guaranteed.  Applicants must have a degree in marine science or education or be actively seeking one.  SCUBA certification is preferred.

You will become familiar with the following areas:

  • Environmental education
  • Operation of Reef Relief’s environmental center
  • Field work in marine conservation
  • Planning, organizing special events, marketing, fundraising 
  • Start and end dates are flexible.
