South Africa 2 Week Volunteering Special

Projects Abroad volunteers are needed to train and coach for our World Cup simulation tournament!

General Info

All of South Africa is excited about the World Cup. Here is a chance to catch the local version of World Cup Fever. In the townships of southern Cape Town, there are tens of thousands of children with a passion for football. You will be asked to help us split the children up into different teams, named after different countries represented in the World Cup. Then you will have the chance to help prepare one of the teams for the great day.

With the help of our tournament manager, Jason Davis, you will be asked to train up your team, improving their football skills, including teamwork and fair play! You should watch some of the World Cup games with them on television, and do some analysis. With a bit of luck some of the children will pick up hints about passing, tackling, positioning, scoring, defending and goalkeeping from Rooney, Essien, Messi, Ronaldo and the rest ...

The essence of this project will be spending time on a football pitch providing encouragement for the disadvantaged children training with you. They will all be on holiday from school and many of them will be idle. We need volunteers to channel their energy into football, the sport they enjoy the most.

At the weekend, we'll make plans around the football matches, but you'll definitely get to see Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope.
